PROVIDENCE SPORTS AND LEADERSHIP TO HONORS JEREMY PEÑA
World Series MVP and Gold Glove Winner to be honor Saturday
PROVIDENCE, RI – Providence Sports and Leadership (PSL), along with the City of Providence and other organizations with deep ties to Jeremy Peña honored the World Series MVP and shortstop for the Houston Astros on Saturday November 26, 2022, at the Providence Career and Technical Academy (PCTA). The ceremony included a short speaking program and an on-stage conversation.
“The community came out in force to help us celebrate Jeremy and all he has accomplished in his rookie season,” said Commander Thomas Verdi, a member of PSL Board. “Jeremy continues to be an incredible role model on and off the field for our student-athletes and we are honored to have this opportunity to thank him.”
Jeremy “La Tormenta” Peña is a graduate of Classical High School, where he was a member of the baseball team and participated in PSL during the summers. He was drafted by the Atlanta Braves but committed to the University of Maine. He was picked by the Houston Astros in the third round of the 2018 Major League Baseball draft. This year, his rookie year, Jeremy was named the 2022 Most Valuable Players for both the ALCS and World Series. He also earned the American League Gold Glove. Jeremy is the first shortstop to receive all of three honors his rookie year.
The event was free and open to the public.
